Nerding Out: Creperie Style

Hey everyone.

I’m Shane, Assistant Manager, and complete nerd.

It’s been awhile since our last blog post, but we’re going to try to make this a more common thing again.

This one is a shout-out to all the gaming nerds out there who support our business!

As you may have seen, many of our specials are made with pop-culture in mind. We’ll often pick a popular TV show or movie such as Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, or Stranger Things and run with an idea, add some puns and voila. However, I know for a fact how many gamers are out there in Boston, and occasionally we like to give a tip of the hat to them as well.)

[Forewarning: If you’re not a gamer, some of this is about to sound like a foreign language.]

Our current Crepe of The Month is the “High Noon”.  It’s an Overwatch themed crepe, giving cheers to one of the most quotable lines of the franchise.  Overwatch has gained such a popularity since it’s launch, which is to be expected, it’s Blizzard Entertainment after all. Personally, I’m pretty terrible at Overwatch. I’m the type of player that’s really good at support/healing, but if someone else is playing the role, I’m running around as Mei on an attack map, saving myself from everything, but dooming my teammates with poorly placed ice walls that seemed like a good idea at the time.

We have a few employees who play it much more than I do. (And are much, much better.)

We’d often have conversations on the crepe line of something funny that happened, or venting how bad their teammates were. You know. The important stuff.

But we knew that others in the area would catch on, and they have. It’s awesome to see when people stop to look at the poster outside and take a picture.

This special ends on October 1st! Be sure to try one before it’s gone!

In the past, we’ve also jumped back on the  Poké-train a few times.  Originally, we ran a special drink known as “The Chaimander” which was a Chai Latte blended with a fiery Cayenne & Cinnamon simple syrup. This was an homage to the original games, which I spent countless hours on in 5th grade. (That was 1998. I’m getting really old.)

Obviously, we had to use a newer game version of Charmander, because Red and Blue are a bit too dated.

Then, low and behold, Pokemon released Pokemon Go last year, which literally, everyone was playing. The first day that launch, you could walk the streets of Allston, and clearly tell who was trying to catch another damn Drowzee in front of a liquor store. Although, not as popular as it was, you can still easily tell whose playing.  I recently walked past a group of people gathered outside of a barbershop, equip with phones and tablets, quietly tapping the screen. My first thought was “Oh my god, these nerds.” But I’m not really one to talk.  I was accidentally walking into traffic trying to unlock a special hero portrait on Hearthstone. Yeah. Carry on friends, raid that barbershop.

The Jiggly-Fluff Crepe

Anyways, we decided to go with the Jiggly-fluff, which is probably one of my favorite themed crepes. The ingredients were really simple and nothing special, but the presentation was on point. Props to our former chef Will for the execution.

Our last example is my personal favorite, only because it’s my child.

                                                                                            The Fall-Out latte!

(One of the only posters I’ve photoshopped myself. I accidentally removed a layer connecting the glasses before print. It haunts me every time I look at it.)

Back when I first started at Paris, I made friends with the former General Manager, Jack, who I found out was a fellow Fallout fan.

The Fallout Franchise is a Survival RPG game series takes place in a post-apocolyptic America, caused by a nuclear explosion.  (Maybe right now, that premise is a bit too real.)

We always chatted about the game during shifts, whether it be a funny glitch that happened, or some ridiculous mod that turns all the raiders in the game into Hulk Hogan.

When we both found out that Fallout 4 was taking place in Boston…….well, let’s just say, the staff was probably so sick about me showing them CGI Images of an in-game Trinity Church.

When Jack left Paris to work for ReThink Restaurants, we compiled a parting gift basket for him made out of an old military ammo box,  filled with: Bottlecaps, Nuka-Cola, Altoids labeled “Mentats”, and some Ibuprofen labelled “Buffout” which are all items taken from the franchise.

We ran the latte out last year, and it was a pretty big hit.

I love Maple+Brown sugar combo so creating a homemade syrup for the latte was both a fun and delicious process.

This year, we picked up some great pure maple syrup from Allandale Farm in Brookline, and I’m excited to use it for the next batch!

This one will be coming back, starting early this October. You know, when it’s more Fall. (Why is it 90 degrees in late September?)

Well then,

If you took the time to read through all of this nonsense, I thank and applaud you.

I just wanted to send this out as an appreciation for some of our guests who come up and compliment our nerdy references.

If you have any ideas, comments, or recipes you’d like to see implemented, shoot me an e-mail at

Thanks all!
